Ramesh smiles. The estate where his parents live and work is a source of pride to him. His home is a beautiful new cottage while the old building at his school has been replaced by a modern schoolhouse. At work, his Amma says, things are just as good with modern equipment in the factory and constant re-training for the workers. The estate itself is getting cleaner and purer with forest reserves and the use of organic fertilizer. Ramesh is also confident about the future. His Appa says that if he’s good in his studies he can go on to university like several other children from the estate…

To us Corporate Social Responsibility begins with our employees and our environment.

Our employees, ranging from Tea Pluckers to the Master Blender, are among the most skilled workers in the world. Apart from the Valley itself they are our other major resource and advantage. Their children are provided with schools, scholarships and grants. Healthcare, ranging from prenatal to geriatric, is available universally for all workers in the Valley. Workers are also constantly retrained to upgrade their skill level and provided with recreational facilities in their spare time.

Since so much is dependant on the unique microclimate and location of the Valley, protecting and preserving the environment and its eco systems is paramount to us. Our reforestation programme protects and preserves all natural forests located within the ambit of the Valley’s land holdings. Additionally we utilize organic fertilizer and composting along with heavy organic mulching. We also stabilize the soil by planting live hedges along the contours of our plantations.
